The 30" x 36" DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filter Element with Double Top Outlet (supplied in a 4-pack master carton) is a commercial-grade filtration grid assembly engineered for top-manifold commercial pool and spa vertical DE pressure filters. It is primarily used in commercial systems manufactured by Hayward, Pentair / Pac-Fab, Waterway, and aftermarket manufacturers such as Filbur and Pleatco.
Unlike center-bottom discharge grids, this design utilizes two symmetrical discharge/outlet ports located on the top header of the element frame. These twin outlets plug directly into an overhead collection manifold or dual-runner discharge bridge, suspending the elements vertically inside the tank while channeling filtered effluent out through the top.

Installation & Inspection Guidelines

Upper Outlet O-Rings: Inspect the internal O-rings or seat collars inside each of the two top ports. Clean out any dried DE powder residue and lubricate with silicone pool lube (never petroleum-based grease) to ensure a watertight seal inside the top manifold runners.

Top Manifold Engagement: Slide the dual top ports squarely into the upper collector manifold before locking down bottom grid spacers. Uneven seating on either of the two top ports will cause unfiltered water and DE powder to bypass directly back to the pool return jets.

Bottom Stabilizer Alignment: Ensure the lower frame tabs sit into the bottom guide plate or spacer bars to prevent the grid leaves from fluttering or touching under high differential pressure during pump starts.

DE Pre-Coat Recommissioning: After resealing the filter tank clamp and bleeding all air through the manual relief valve, charge the system with fresh DE powder (typically ~1 lb of DE per 5–10 sq. ft. of surface area; approximately 6 to 7 lbs for a 60 sq. ft. set) via the skimmer with the filtration pump running.
