The Mer-Made 30" × 60" Corner Outlet on Short Side — Cover Only (cataloged under Part # 775-COVER / VFC-3060-COSS) is the tailored replacement synthetic fabric filter jacket envelope designed to re-cover existing large-format bare leaf frames in high-capacity commercial vacuum DE vaults, municipal competition pools, and deep surge tanks where the effluent manifold header connects at the corner of the 30" short boundary edge.

This format accommodates an extended 5-foot (60") span while collecting clean effluent through an asymmetrical, reinforced corner cutout collar located at the intersection of the 30" short rail and 60" side rail. This item supplies only the synthetic filtration envelope, reinforced corner-spud collar, tension closure system, and paired replacement compression sealing gaskets. It is specified when the internal drainage matrix core and rigid PVC/CPVC border framing remain structurally intact, but the existing cloth has blinded from chemical scale, calcified DE, or body oils, or has suffered mechanical tears from backwashing.

Material Properties & Chemical Tolerances

  • Chlorine & Saline Resistance: Virgin polypropylene fibers resist chemical degradation, rot, and hydrolysis under continuous exposure to high free chlorine residuals, shock hyperchlorination treatments, and saline pool environments (2,500 to 5,000+ ppm NaCl).

  • Acid Wash Survivability: Withstands routine seasonal chemical descaling baths in dilute muriatic (hydrochloric) or citric acid solutions to dissolve embedded calcium carbonate crust and mineral scaling without deteriorating seam stitching or collar reinforcement threads.

  • Pre-Coat Retention & Release: The balanced monofilament weave structure retains standard DE powder and perlite grades without bleed-through during initial pump startup, while facilitating clean cake release during backwashing or manual hose-down.

Physical Dimensions & Weight Estimates

  • Individual Cover Net Weight: Approximately 1.35 to 1.80 lbs (0.61 to 0.82 kg).

  • Single Boxed Cover Shipping Weight: Approximately 2.70 to 3.90 lbs (1.22 to 1.77 kg) in a compact corrugated box.

  • Master Carton / Multi-Pack (6 to 12 Covers): Approximately 13.0 to 24.0 lbs (5.9 to 10.9 kg).

  • Full Vault Overhaul Pack (20 to 30 Covers): Approximately 32.0 to 50.0 lbs (14.5 to 22.7 kg).

Field Re-Covering & Tensioning Steps

  1. Verify Handing Before Installation: Confirm whether the frame’s discharge spud is located at the left-hand or right-hand corner of the 30" short edge to ensure the asymmetric cutout on the replacement cover aligns directly over the spud without reversing the closure flap.

  2. Strip Old Jacket & Inspect Frame: Remove the spent leaf from the pit, open the closure seam, and peel off the degraded cover. Discard the compressed gasket. Pressure-wash the bare polypropylene drainage grid and inspect the full 60" span of the PVC borders for cracks, rough weld beads, or burrs that could tear the new fabric.

  3. Sleeve the Frame: Slide the replacement envelope down over the 60" length of the frame, guiding the reinforced corner opening over the protruding corner discharge spud on the 30" rail.

  4. Seat the Spud Collar: Stretch the reinforced collar cutout snugly around the base of the corner hub until seated flush against the molded locating shoulder without bunching or twisting.

  5. Tension & Seal: Pull the fabric taut across the 30" × 60" face from both sides to eliminate wrinkles or bagging (loose fabric over a 5-foot span allows DE cakes to bridge, sag, and slough off under vacuum). Firmly press the Velcro closure flap closed across the edge rail to lock in uniform tension.

  6. Mount Gasket: Slide a fresh high-density felt compression collar or elastomeric ring onto the corner outlet spud against the locating shoulder before lowering the re-covered leaf back into the vault manifold receiver socket.
