The 48" x 60" DE (Diatomaceous Earth) Filter Element with Dual Outlet is a high-capacity, heavy-duty commercial filtration grid designed for municipal aquatic facilities, water parks, institutional competition pools, and large commercial pressure DE filter vessels. It is commonly specified in large vertical commercial systems manufactured by Pentair / Purex, Hayward, Jacuzzi, and commercial grid specialists such as Filbur and Pleatco.

Due to the substantial 4-foot height and 5-foot width of the panel, this element utilizes a dual-outlet header design (two distinct discharge ports, typically positioned along the top manifold edge or upper perimeter). The twin outlets balance internal effluent draw across the broad 40-square-foot surface area, preventing flow bottlenecks and pressure drops across the grid face while discharging clean water into the overhead collector assembly.

Key Specifications

Specification Detail
Element Dimensions 48" Height × 60" Width (approximate nominal grid face dimensions)
Outlet Configuration Dual Outlet (two molded cylindrical discharge ports with internal O-ring/gasket seating seats)
Filtration Area per Grid ~40 sq. ft. effective surface area per element (double-sided filtration)
Typical Cluster Sizing Often configured in sets of 5 to 8 elements (yielding 200 to 320+ sq. ft. total filter area)
Material Composition Acid- and chlorine-resistant heavy woven polypropylene/polyester cloth sonically welded and stitched over a reinforced internal structural framework
Standard Packaging Typically boxed in pairs (2/Box) or master commercial crating depending on manufacturer
Typical Shipping Weight ~14.0 to 17.0 lbs per individual element (~30 to 36 lbs per typical 2-pack master carton with reinforced edge protection)

Installation & Inspection Guidelines

  1. Dual-Port O-Ring Inspection: Examine both outlet ports on each element. Ensure internal rubber O-rings or sleeve gaskets are intact, uncracked, and cleared of dried, hardened DE. Coat each seal with a silicone-based pool lubricant before seating into the upper manifold.

  2. Fabric Tension and Seam Check: Because of the 48" × 60" span, inspect the center fabric stitching and perimeter seams for sagging, tears, or separation. Any pinhole failure will bypass DE powder directly into the pool or surge tank.

  3. Manifold Alignment: Carefully guide both outlet ports evenly into the upper collector manifold branches. Avoid tilting or forcing one side in first, which can crack the molded plastic hub under torque.

  4. Bottom Spacer Locking: Ensure the bottom stabilizing tabs seat squarely into the lower alignment track before torquing down the manifold tie rods. This keeps the broad panels parallel and prevents rubbing under pump cycles.

  5. DE Pre-Coat Recharging: After securing the vessel clamp and bleeding all trapped air via the manual relief valve, recharge the system with fresh DE slurry through the surge pit or skimmer at a rate of ~1 lb of DE powder per 8–10 sq. ft. of filter surface (e.g., ~4 to 5 lbs of DE powder per 48" × 60" element).
