The DE Bag Dispensing Tray Cover (also designated in commercial pool operations as a dust containment hood, slurry hopper lid, or vapor/debris cover) is a protective containment lid fitted directly over the DE bag dispensing tray or staging cradle.
In mechanical pump rooms and aquatic chemical storage areas, it serves two functions: it prevents moisture, splashes, and ambient humidity from hardening the remaining dry Diatomaceous Earth cake on the tray, and it contains fugitive airborne crystalline silica dust when slitting bags and washing down the dispensing hopper.

Operating & Inspection Guidelines
-
Dust Containment During Pouring: When metering DE powder into the slurry tank, keep the cover in a semi-closed or hooded position to minimize airborne dust plumes escaping into the mechanical room air.
-
Washdown & Rinse Cycle: After charging the system, rinse the tray interior with the cover partially closed so that wash water channels straight down into the slurry intake without splashing back onto deck surfaces.
-
Moisture Seal Check: Between filter recharges, ensure the cover is latched or seated flush over the dispensing tray. If water vapor from open surge pits or floor drains penetrates the hopper, residual DE will form a rock-hard calcified crust along the discharge throat.
-
Hinge & Latch Maintenance: Periodically rinse chemical residue from the stainless hinge pins or plastic pivot tabs to prevent binding or cracking from corrosive chloramine-laden mechanical room atmospheres.
Even with a tray cover in place, opening and dumping dry Diatomaceous Earth bags generates airborne respirable dust. Always wear an approved N95 or P100 respirator and protective eyewear until the cover is closed and the slurry cycle is complete.
