The DE Dispensing Tray Body Feed Hardware Kit (Timer & Solenoid) is an automated chemical and media metering assembly used in commercial aquatic centers, municipal facilities, and water parks.
While the initial pre-coat charges the filter grids at the start of a cycle, high bather loads and fine suspended organics quickly "blind" the cake surface, causing rapid pressure spikes. The body feed (continuous slurry feed) system injects small, intermittent increments of fresh Diatomaceous Earth slurry throughout normal filtration runs. This fresh media mixes continuously with trapped organics, maintaining cake porosity, keeping differential pressure low, and extending filter operating cycles between backwashes.
The timer-and-solenoid hardware kit automates this process by controlling water injection into the dispensing tray/slurry hopper on a set duty cycle, flushing metered doses of slurry into the pump suction line.
Key Specifications

-
Plumbing Run: Plumb a clean, pressurized water line through a manual isolation valve, a 50-mesh wye-strainer (to protect the solenoid seat from grit), and into the inlet of the solenoid valve. The outlet runs directly to the spray wash manifold mounted on the DE dispensing tray.
-
Electrical Interlock: Power the repeat-cycle timer through an auxiliary dry contact on the main circulation pump controller or flow switch. This guarantees the solenoid cannot open and flood the DE tray if the filter pump shuts down.
-
Timer Tuning:
-
OFF Time (Interval): Set to meter doses based on bather load (typically every 15 to 30 minutes).
-
ON Time (Pulse Duration): Set to spray long enough to wash a measured slurry increment down the tray throat (typically 10 to 20 seconds).
