The Link Automation ORP Probe with CONX Connector Cable (Pool Link / Link Automation) is a heavy-duty, commercial oxidation-reduction potential electrode engineered for commercial pools, municipal natatoriums, waterparks, and athletic spas. Designed to measure net sanitizer oxidation power in millivolts ($mV$), this configuration replaces standard twist-on BNC plugs with a CONX (sealed industrial circular connector) termination. The threaded/locking circular connection creates an IP67/NEMA 6P moisture-tight physical barrier directly at the controller enclosure bulkhead or inline harness, preventing pin oxidation, ground faults, and signal attenuation in corrosive, high-humidity chemical mechanical rooms.
Hardware & Analytical Architecture
Built for continuous operation in aggressive commercial aquatic environments:
-
CONX Sealed Multi-Pin Terminal: Terminated with a molded, circular industrial locking connector featuring internal elastomeric O-rings and a positive-locking retention collar. This sealed connection isolates low-voltage sensor lines from ambient chloramines, acid fumes, condensation, and washdown spray.
-
High-Purity Platinum Sensing Element: Outfitted with a solid platinum band or disc tip designed for rapid, reversible electron transfer with oxidizers (free chlorine, bromine, ozone, or peroxides) across high-load commercial turnover cycles.
-
Sealed Gel Reference Half-Cell: Utilizes an internal silver/silver chloride ($Ag/AgCl$) reference system suspended in a high-molarity, saturated potassium chloride gel electrolyte, eliminating the need for periodic pressurization or liquid top-offs.
-
Porous Liquid Junction: Features a broad-surface porous Teflon or ceramic annular liquid junction that resists clogging from suspended solids, calcium scaling, and bather oils while ensuring a stable electrical bridge to the pool stream.
-
Noise-Shielded Coaxial Lead: Heavy-duty, low-noise shielded coaxial cable prevents electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency noise generated by adjacent variable frequency drives (VFDs), commercial pump motors, and high-voltage feeder contactors.
-
Pre-Hydrated Wetting Boot: Ships with a protective, liquid-tight wetting boot filled with 3.8 M or 4.0 M potassium chloride ($KCl$) storage solution to maintain the reference junction during storage and transit.

Calibration, Cleaning & Maintenance
-
Hydration Protocol: The probe tip must remain wet. When taking the sampling loop off-line for seasonal winterization or plumbing service, reinstall the wetting boot filled with 4.0 M KCl solution (or pool water in an emergency). Never store the probe in distilled or deionized water, as zero-ion water rapidly leaches reference electrolytes out through the porous junction.
-
Platinum Surface Cleaning: Organic films or bather grease should be cleaned by wiping the platinum tip gently with a soft swab saturated in isopropyl alcohol or mild detergent. Mineral scale should be dissolved by soaking the tip in a 5% to 10% hydrochloric acid solution or household vinegar for 5 to 10 minutes, followed by a thorough tap water rinse.
-
Reference Span Check: Calibrate or verify response using standard quinhydrone redox reference buffers ($pH\ 4.00$ buffer saturated with quinhydrone reads approx. $+263\text{ mV}$ at 25°C; $pH\ 7.00$ buffer with quinhydrone reads approx. $+86\text{ mV}$).
