The Link Automation ORP Probe with CONX Connector Cable, Gold Tipped (Pool Link / Link Automation) is a specialized commercial-grade oxidation-reduction potential electrode engineered specifically for commercial aquatic facilities utilizing salt chlorine generation (electrolytic chlorinators) or ozone systems in high-humidity, corrosive chemical room environments. Combining a solid gold sensing tip with an industrial CONX circular connector, this configuration eliminates hydrogen gas interference on the sensing face while providing an IP67/NEMA 6P sealed, water-tight physical lock at the controller enclosure bulkhead to prevent pin corrosion and signal loss.
Hardware & Analytical Architecture
Engineered to maintain precision millivolt ($mV$) potential measurements across aggressive commercial turnover cycles:
-
High-Purity Solid Gold (Au) Tip: Designed specifically for electrolytic saltwater applications. Electrolytic cells generate microscopic hydrogen bubbles at the cathode that adsorb onto traditional platinum bands, depressing millivolt readings (hydrogen overpotential). Gold features a significantly higher hydrogen overpotential, resisting gas blinding and providing stable, accurate ORP tracking in saltwater pools.
-
Industrial CONX Water-Tight Termination: Replaces standard exposed BNC plugs with a molded circular multi-pin connector featuring internal elastomeric O-rings and a threaded or bayonet locking collar. This design creates a hermetic seal against airborne acid vapors, chloramine gas, and washdown spray, eliminating high-resistance contact faults and ground loops.
-
Sealed $Ag/AgCl$ Reference System: Outfitted with an internal silver/silver chloride reference electrode suspended in a high-viscosity, saturated potassium chloride ($KCl$) gel matrix that requires no ongoing pressurization or electrolyte replenishment.
-
Porous Liquid Junction: Features a broad-surface porous Teflon or ceramic annular junction designed to resist fouling from suspended bather organics, oils, and calcium carbonate scale while maintaining steady electrolytic continuity with the sample stream.
-
Shielded Low-Noise Coaxial Cable: Wrapped in heavy-gauge, double-shielded jacketing engineered to suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency noise emitted by adjacent variable frequency drives (VFDs), electronic salt chlorinator power supplies, and high-voltage pump motors.
-
Protective Storage Boot: Ships pre-hydrated with a liquid-tight storage cap filled with 3.8 M or 4.0 M potassium chloride ($KCl$) storage buffer to protect the reference junction during storage and transit.

Calibration, Cleaning & Maintenance
-
Hydration Protocol: The gold tip and porous junction must remain wet at all times. When taking the sampling loop off-line for winterization or plumbing repairs, reinstall the wetting boot filled with 4.0 M KCl solution (or clean pool water in an emergency). Never store the probe in distilled or deionized water, as zero-ion water rapidly leaches reference ions out through the porous junction.
-
Gold Tip Cleaning: Avoid abrasive scouring pads or sandpaper on gold tips. Remove organic bio-films or bather oils by gently wiping the gold surface with a soft cotton swab saturated with isopropyl alcohol or mild liquid detergent. For mineral scale, soak the tip in a 5% to 10% hydrochloric acid solution or household white vinegar for 5 to 10 minutes, followed by a thorough tap water rinse.
-
Calibration & Verification: Verified using standard quinhydrone redox reference buffers ($pH\ 4.00$ buffer saturated with quinhydrone yields approximately $+263\text{ mV}$ at 25°C; $pH\ 7.00$ buffer with quinhydrone yields approximately $+86\text{ mV}$).
