The Mer-Made 24" × 36" Center Bottom Outlet Complete Vacuum DE Filter Leaf Assembly is a vertical-format commercial drop-in replacement element engineered for commercial vacuum DE filter vaults, institutional therapy pools, spa circulation systems, and municipal water features.

Unlike the shallow 36" W × 24" H horizontal profile, this configuration is oriented with a 24" horizontal width and a 36" vertical height, placing the effluent discharge drop spud centrally along the narrow 24" bottom horizontal rail. This vertical aspect ratio is commonly specified for narrow trench vaults, compact footprint tanks, or deep pits where floor space is limited but vertical clearance allows taller leaves.

Technical Specifications & Dimensions

Specification Parameter / Detail
Manufacturer / Line Mer-Made Filter (Standard Commercial Vacuum DE Replacement)
Nominal Frame Dimensions 24" Wide × 36" High (approx. 610 mm W × 914 mm H)
Effective Filtration Surface Area 12.0 sq. ft. nominal (both faces combined)
Discharge Configuration Center Bottom Outlet (Discharge spud centered on the 24" bottom rail)

Spud Elevation / Extension Standard 2-1/2" to 3-1/2" drop from bottom frame rail with molded locating shoulder
Assembly Scope ("Complete") Rigid CPVC/PVC structural frame, internal high-flow open drainage grid matrix, molded center-bottom hub, pre-fitted synthetic woven filter cover (jacket), and high-density felt compression sealing collar
Recommended Design Flow Rate 12.0 to 18.0 GPM per leaf (based on standard commercial flux rate of 1.0 to 1.5 GPM/sq. ft.)
Operating Vacuum Limit Backwash triggered at 10" to 12" Hg differential (maximum operating head loss 15" Hg)

Structural Architecture & Construction Details

  • Vertical Drainage Matrix: High-rigidity, open-profile polypropylene or ABS drainage core engineered to withstand negative vacuum loads up to 15" Hg without collapsing inward. The internal drainage matrix provides direct vertical and diagonal drainage channels guiding flow down from the 36" height toward the 24" bottom center discharge hub.

  • Perimeter Framing: Heavy-wall extruded rigid CPVC/PVC outer border channel with thermo-welded corner miter joints. The 36" vertical side rails provide high columnar strength to resist racking and flexing when seated in the floor header.

  • Molded Center-Bottom Hub: Injection-molded, chemical-resistant PVC spud thermo-welded directly onto the center of the 24" bottom rail. Includes an integrated stop shoulder to ensure correct seating depth in the floor manifold receiver and uniform compression on the felt sealing gasket.

  • Factory-Fitted Septum Jacket: Rot- and chlorine-resistant woven monofilament or multifilament polypropylene fabric bag calibrated for 20–30 micron diatomaceous earth pre-coat retention. Features a reinforced cutout collar centered on the 24" bottom edge and a commercial-grade Velcro hook-and-loop flap across the 24" top rail.

Physical Dimensions & Weight Estimates

  • Individual Complete Leaf Net Weight: Approximately 11.5 to 14.0 lbs (5.2 to 6.4 kg).

  • Single Boxed Leaf Shipping Weight: Approximately 17.0 to 21.0 lbs (7.7 to 9.5 kg) in heavy-duty corrugated cartons with edge protectors.

  • Commercial Grid Lot (10 to 20 Leaves): Approximately 180 to 320 lbs (82 to 145 kg) freight-strapped to a standard 40" × 48" wooden skid.

Field Installation & Manifold Seating Guidelines

  1. Clean Floor Manifold Receivers: Flush and wire-brush the floor header receiver bushings to remove calcified DE powder, mineral scale, and grit.

  2. Mount Compression Felt: Slide a fresh high-density felt compression collar (Part # FELTCOLLAR) over the center-bottom spud until seated flush against the molded locating shoulder.

  3. Engage Manifold: Lower the leaf vertically into the vault, aligning the 24" bottom rail's center spud with the floor receiver socket. Press firmly downward on the upper rail until the felt collar compresses evenly against the header bushing face.

  4. Lock Hold-Down System: Position the overhead structural hold-down bar across the 24" top rail, verify vertical alignment across adjacent leaves to maintain uniform bank spacing, and tighten the hold-down tie rods.
