The Mer-Made 30" × 60" Double Outlet Complete Vacuum DE Filter Leaf Assembly is a commercial-grade drop-in replacement engineered to retrofit legacy Neptune Benson vacuum DE systems (as well as custom deep-tank vaults). Because a standard 30" × 60" leaf provides approximately 25 sq. ft. of filtration area, pulling effluent through a single drop stem can create excessive localized head loss or uneven cake loading at high flow rates. The Double Outlet configuration provides two parallel discharge stems along the bottom frame rail, doubling the internal effluent exit area and balancing hydraulic draw across the full 5-foot height of the septum.

Construction & Material Architecture

  • Internal Support Core: Rigid, open-matrix polypropylene or ABS drainage grid that resists hydraulic collapse under high vacuum while permitting unrestricted cross-flow to both discharge stems.

  • Perimeter Frame: Heavy-duty CPVC/PVC extruded perimeter frame with solvent-welded or thermo-welded reinforced corner joints to prevent racking and bowing under water turbulence.

  • Dual Outlet Hubs: Gusseted, injection-molded discharge hubs welded into the bottom rail. Each stem includes an integrated stop collar to position the felt collar and set the insertion depth into the vacuum manifold.

  • Septum Cloth Jacket: High-tenacity, multifilament polyester or polypropylene woven fabric bag calibrated for DE pre-coat retention (nominal 20–30 micron porosity), stitched with chemical- and rot-resistant thread.

Installation & Manifold Seating Guidelines

  1. Header Port Cleaning: Before dropping the leaf into the pit, clear out any hardened DE residue or scale inside the dual Neptune Benson manifold receiver bushings.

  2. Collar Installation: Slide a new felt collar onto each of the two outlet drop stems until seated against the locating shoulders.

  3. Plumb Insertion: Lower the leaf vertically using both hands to keep the frame level. Guide both outlet stems simultaneously into their respective manifold sockets. Press downward evenly on the top frame rail until both felt collars compress squarely.

  4. Hold-Down Alignment: Verify the top edge of the 60" frame engages the upper hold-down rubber track. Uneven seating on either outlet stem will cock the leaf, compromising the seal and allowing DE bleed-through during pre-coating.
