The Mer-Made 30" × 60" Double Outlet (Neptune Benson Replacement) — Cover Only (also cataloged as the Filter Cloth Bag, Septum Jacket, or Part # 775-COVER / VFC-3060) is the fabric envelope engineered to re-cover existing bare leaf cores in deep-tank vacuum DE filtration systems.

This configuration includes only the woven synthetic filtration cloth, factory-stitched seams, dual reinforced bottom stem cutouts, and the closure mechanism (typically supplied with the dual compression felt gaskets/collars). It is specified when leaf grids and PVC frames remain structurally sound but the cloth has blinded from chemical scale, torn, or stretched from repeated backwashing cycles.

Material Properties & Operating Limits

  • Chemical & Chloride Resistance: Woven polypropylene fibers do not degrade or hydrolyze under prolonged immersion in heavily chlorinated pool water, sodium hypochlorite shock treatments, or saline pool electrolytes (2,500 to 5,000+ ppm NaCl).

  • Acid Wash Survivability: Capable of withstanding seasonal chemical restoration cleanings using dilute muriatic (hydrochloric) or citric acid solutions to dissolve calcium, oil, and mineral scaling.

  • Pre-Coat Bridging Prevention: The monofilament weave structure allows rapid, cake-release during backwash or hose-down while preventing DE powder bleed-through under normal suction velocities (1.0 to 1.5 GPM/sq. ft.).

Weights & Packaging Estimates

  • Individual Cover Net Weight: Approximately 1.25 to 1.75 lbs (0.57 to 0.79 kg).

  • Single Boxed Cover Shipping Weight: Approximately 2.5 to 4.0 lbs (1.1 to 1.8 kg) in a compact corrugated box.

  • Master Carton / Multi-Pack (6 to 12 Covers): Approximately 12 to 22 lbs (5.4 to 10.0 kg).

  • Full Vault Overhaul Pack (20 to 30 Covers): Approximately 32 to 50 lbs (14.5 to 22.7 kg).

Field Installation & Re-Covering Procedure

  1. Stripping Old Cover: Remove the worn leaf from the surge pit. Cut or release the top closure, peel the spent bag off the frame, and discard the old felt collars.

  2. Core Wash-Down & Inspection: Pressure-wash the bare internal grid core to eliminate calcified DE buildup. Check the PVC borders for hairline cracks or sharp burrs that could tear the new jacket.

  3. Sleeving the Frame: Slide the replacement cover over the top of the frame, pulling it down toward the dual bottom discharge hubs.

  4. Outlet Alignment: Carefully stretch the reinforced bottom cutout collars over each individual outlet spud until seated flush against the molded locating shoulders.

  5. Tensioning & Sealing: Pull the bag upward evenly from both sides to ensure tautness across the entire 60" span (loose fabric allows DE cakes to bridge and slough off under vacuum). Firmly seal the top Velcro closure flap.

  6. Collar Installation: Press new felt compression collars onto both outlet drop stems before reseating the leaf into the Neptune Benson vacuum manifold header.
