The Pentair 185 Leaf Eater with Wheels and Brushes is a versatile, venturi‑powered leaf removal tool designed to clear large debris from the pool floor quickly and efficiently. It connects to a standard garden hose to create strong upward water flow that lifts leaves and debris into the attached mesh bag, making it especially useful after storms or heavy leaf fall. The built‑in wheels allow smooth movement across the pool surface, while the integrated brushes help loosen debris for more effective collection. Its snap‑adapter handle fits standard telescopic poles, and the included display‑boxed version comes ready for use with the mesh bag, wheels, and brushes already integrated. This tool is valued for its simplicity, durability, and ability to handle heavy debris loads without relying on the pool’s filtration system

The Pentair 185 Leaf Eater (with wheels and brushes, part number R211036) requires zero electricity, batteries, or pool pump suction to operate.

Instead, its power source is hydrodynamic water pressure from a standard garden hose, paired with your own manual muscle power.

Here is how this unique power loop works:

  • The Primary Force (The Garden Hose): You screw a standard residential garden hose directly into the brass fitting on the base of the Leaf Eater. When you turn the outdoor spigot on, high-pressure tap water rushes through the device.

  • The Venturi Effect: The water is forced through a ring of tiny upward-facing jet nozzles inside the cleaner. This high-velocity stream sprays directly up into the attached mesh debris bag. This creates a powerful Venturi effect—a localized vacuum vortex that sucks water, heavy wet leaves, twigs, and bugs off the bottom of the pool and shoves them straight into the bag.

  • The Propulsion: Because it doesn't plug into the wall or use automated track drives, you supply the physical movement. You snap a standard telescoping pool pole onto its handle and manually push it across the pool floor.

The spinning wheels and clip-on brushes are entirely passive—they simply reduce friction and help loosen stubborn debris from plaster or vinyl liners as you guide the vacuum around.
