The Pentair Clean & Clear® Plus Bottom Manifold (part number 170040 for standard configurations manufactured after December 2000, or 170035 for legacy pre-December 2000 versions that include an attached outlet pipe assembly) is a critical internal structural base and hydraulic fluid-routing component designed exclusively for large-capacity vertical cartridge filtration systems. This genuine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part serves as the lower foundation for the entire lineup of Pentair Clean & Clear Plus filters, including the CCP240, CCP320, CCP420, and CCP520 models.

Primary Operational Role

The manifold acts as the physical seating template and fluid aggregator for the filter's internal core. It features four circular receiving ports meticulously arranged in a square radial pattern, designed to securely grip and seal the lower open cores of the filter's four large polyester fabric cartridges. During the standard pool filtration cycle, water enters the top or side of the filter tank and is forced inward through the fabric media of the cartridges. The clean, filtered water travels down the center of each cartridge core and empties straight into the bottom manifold. The manifold then consolidates these four high-velocity fluid streams and channels the unified volume out through the lower bulkhead and back into the pool return plumbing.

Performance & Materials

By holding the heavy filtration cartridges perfectly upright, this lower template ensures uniform spacing between the elements, preventing localized dead-zones, uneven debris loading, or hydraulic bypass. It is injection-molded from a heavy-walled, high-impact engineered thermoplastic polymer composite, enabling it to withstand continuous internal system operating pressures up to 50 PSI and safely absorb sudden pump startup surges. Because it remains permanently submerged at the base of a pressurized vessel, its robust material compound is designed to resist structural warping, environmental stress-cracking, and advanced chemical degradation from constant exposure to pool sanitizers like liquid chlorine, bromine, and salt-generator water outputs. Due to its solid structural footprint, this individual replacement bottom manifold carries a net product and shipping weight of approximately 1.10 to 1.25 pounds (about 17.6 to 20.0 ounces).
