STRAINER COVER KIT

The Hayward Strainer Cover Kit includes the pump’s strainer cover (often clear/translucent), a locking ring, and an O‑ring — replacing or sealing the cover for the strainer basket on a pool pump. When installed, the cover protects the pump’s internal components (basket, impeller, etc.) from debris while allowing you to visually inspect the pump basket without opening the housing. The locking ring holds the cover firmly in place, compressing the O‑ring to create a watertight, pressure‑tight seal that prevents leaks or air infiltration. This seal is critical: a worn or missing O‑ring can lead to air leaks, lost suction, water leaks, or pump malfunction. Because the kit is typically made from durable, pool‑rated materials resistant to chemicals, UV light, and repeated use — replacing or maintaining this kit helps ensure reliable pump performance and extends the longevity of the system.
